Returns & Refunds

We ship all orders via UPS Ground, which typically arrives within 3–7 business days depending on your location. At checkout, you’ll be able to see real-time shipping estimates based on your address. We’re exploring expedited options for an additional fee and hope to offer them soon.

For pre-sale items, shipping works a bit differently. Any order that includes a pre-sale product will ship once all items in that order are in stock. If you'd like your in-stock items sooner, we recommend placing two separate orders so they can ship separately.

We’ll always keep you informed with email updates as your pre-sale items move through production and get closer to delivery.

We want you to love your Haus of Tiles pieces. If something arrives damaged or isn’t quite what you expected, we’re here to help. Please review our return guidelines below, and reach out to our team anytime at info@shophausoftiles.com.

Eligible Returns

We accept returns on full-price, unopened items within 14 days of delivery for a refund (shipping charges are non-refundable).

To qualify:

  • + Items must be unused, unopened, and in their original packaging, including all shrink wrap.
  • + Return shipping is the customer’s responsibility unless the item arrived damaged or we made an error.
  • + Please include your order number inside the package so we can process your refund quickly.
  • + Unopened Shrink Wrap Is Required

Because our tiles are small-batch, hand-painted, and packaged with extreme care, we cannot accept returns on any item once the shrink wrap has been opened.

Opened Items

At this time, we are unable to accept opened or partially opened sets for return or refund.

Damaged or Incorrect Orders

If your order arrives damaged or incorrect, please contact us within 7 days of delivery with photos so we can make it right immediately.

FAQ

Find the most frequently asked questions below.
  • Can I return something I changed my mind about?

Yes. We accept eligible, full-price returns within 14 days of delivery. Items must be unused, unopened, and returned with all original interior and exterior packaging intact and in resaleable condition.

Tile sets must have their original shrink wrap completely intact. Acrylic trunks must also remain unopened. Acrylic shows fingerprints and fine surface marks almost immediately once handled, so opened items cannot be returned to inventory and sold as new.

To request a return, visit our Contact page and select Return an Item. The form will walk you through the information and photos needed to confirm eligibility.

    What does a return cost?

Preference returns are subject to an 18% restocking fee, which includes payment processing fees we are charged and cannot recover. Return shipping is also deducted from your refund, and original shipping charges are nonrefundable.

We will provide an approximate return shipping cost before you proceed so you have an idea of what your refund will be.

Why is there a restocking fee?

Returns create costs beyond the return shipment itself. We subsidize the original shipping, and our fulfillment center charges us to receive, inspect, process, and return an item to inventory. If that item sells again, we incur fulfillment and shipping costs again.

The restocking fee helps offset those costs as well as payment processing fees we do not recover when an order is refunded.

When will I receive my refund?

Once your return arrives, it will be inspected to confirm that it meets our return conditions. Approved refunds are then issued to the original payment method, less the applicable restocking fee, return shipping, and nonrefundable original shipping charges.

  • We do not process direct exchanges. If you would like a different item, please place a new order for the piece you want and submit the original item separately through our return process. All standard return eligibility requirements and fees apply.

  • Yes, at any time before your order ships. When you place a pre-order we immediately commit inventory and take on costs on your behalf, including credit card processing fees we do not get back. Cancellations are subject to a 15% fee calculated on the total order amount, including shipping collected at checkout. That 15% is inclusive of the 4 percent processing fee, not in addition to it. The remaining 85% is refunded to your original payment method within 5 to 10 business days after your cancellation is confirmed.

  • No. Once an order is placed, we are unable to add items or make changes to it. While we would love to accommodate every request, our orders move into fulfillment quickly and the volume of order modifications makes this unmanageable for our small team.

If you would like something else, please place a separate order.

  • No. While we would love to accommodate every request that makes shopping with us easier, with the volume of orders we process, combining separate orders simply isn’t feasible. Each order is processed individually and moves into fulfillment quickly, so we are unable to merge orders or refund shipping charges after they have been placed.

If you would like multiple items to ship together, please purchase them in a single checkout.

  • If you accidentally placed a duplicate order, please submit a cancellation request through our Customer Care form as soon as possible and include both order numbers. If the duplicate order has not already moved into fulfillment, we can cancel it.

All cancellations are subject to our 5% cancellation fee. Payment processing fees are charged to us when an order is placed and are not returned to us when an order is refunded. The cancellation fee applies to duplicate and accidental orders as well.

  • Cancellation requests must be submitted through our Contact page before your order ships. Select Cancel an Order and complete the form with all requested information so our team has everything needed to review your request.

Please note that submitting a cancellation request does not guarantee cancellation. Orders move into fulfillment quickly, and once an order has shipped, it can no longer be canceled.

  • The reality is, Mahjong is not particularly shipping-friendly. Our tile sets are large and heavy, while mats and racks require substantial packaging and can sometimes ship separately.

Rather than pass the actual cost of shipping along to you, we charge a flat $19.99 on orders under $1,000, regardless of what you order. In most cases, the actual cost to ship your order is higher than what you pay at checkout, and Haus of Tiles covers the difference.

  • Once an order has entered fulfillment or shipped, it can no longer be canceled and is handled as a return. The piece needs to come back to us unopened, within 14 days of delivery, with return shipping and the 18 percent restocking fee applying.

If you already know you want to send it back, do not open anything when it arrives. Leave the outer box and all inner packaging intact. Tile sets ship shrink wrapped, and once that wrap is broken we cannot accept the set back at all.

  • Yes, as long as the order has not shipped. Please contact customer serivce with your order number and the correct address and we will update it assuming the package has not yet been processed.

  • Yes and no, and that is exactly the point.

Yes, our tiles stay true to the classic structure of American Mahjong. The suits, symbols, and meanings remain authentic and instantly recognizable to any player, new or seasoned. Even in our themed collections, the artwork is intentionally literal so nothing ever feels abstract or confusing.

And no, we do not replicate traditional tiles line for line. We reinterpret them through an interior designer's eye, with cleaner lines, warmer palettes, elevated details, and a modern look that sits well in today's interiors.

For players who love the tried-and-true look most, our Haus No. 88 set is the closest to the iconic originals. Same essence, same familiarity, with a fresh and refined touch.

  • The star is our signature for two reasons, both rooted in guidance and grounding.

In mahjong, the compass directions of North, South, East, and West are essential to the rhythm of the game. The star represents that idea of orientation, a nod to the way mahjong helps you find your place at the table and in the moment.

It is also personal to our founder. She discovered mahjong during a season when she needed something to look forward to, something steady, social, and joy-filled. The game became her north star, bringing connection, creativity, and community back into her life.

Our star icon honors both: the compass of the game and the compass of the heart.

  • Every tile is tumbled for days at a time as part of the manufacturing process. This extended tumbling smooths the edges, softens the corners, and creates the hand-feel players love. It is what gives the tiles their silky, broken-in quality rather than a sharp factory finish.

After tumbling, every tile is deeply engraved and then painted. Depending on the design, the paint is applied by machine, by hand, or by a combination of the two. The engraving is what helps keep the artwork from wearing off with play. We use a sturdy, premium-weight tile with a slightly larger face, so the design reads clearly and the tile feels good in your hand. Once painted, every tile is hand polished one final time before being packaged.

  • No, and we never will. UV printing is a faster, less expensive way to produce a tile. Artwork can be digitally printed directly onto the surface in seconds, without the time, tooling, or craftsmanship required to deeply engrave and paint each design. It also makes designs remarkably easy to reproduce. For us, that is not a premium product.

Our tiles are engraved and then painted, by machine, by hand, or through a combination of the two depending on the intricacy of the design. It is slower, more expensive, and much more difficult to replicate, but that is precisely the point. We want our tiles to feel crafted, not printed.

Engraving also matters once the tiles hit the table. The artwork is recessed into the tile rather than simply sitting on its surface, helping protect the design through the shuffling, stacking, pushing, and constant contact that comes with actual play. Surface printing can scuff, scratch, fade, or wear with repeated use.

You can feel the difference with your thumb. Run it across one of our tiles and you can actually feel the artwork. That depth, detail, and craftsmanship are part of what make a Haus of Tiles set a premium product.

  • Haus of Tiles is the first full mahjong collection created by an interior designer, built on the belief that the game you love should feel as beautiful as the home you play it in. Our founder saw a need for tiles and accessories that could live in harmony with the room, looking just as good styled in a glass bowl on the credenza as they do in the middle of game night.

Rooted in color theory, pattern play, and thoughtful design, our sets strike a minimalist and maximalist balance. Bold enough to make a statement, refined enough to never overwhelm. Artful, elevated, and neutral enough to stay out on the table every day.

We also design with interchangeability in mind. Most of our tile sets, mats, racks, and shufflers are made to mix and match. Just as you would layer textiles and finishes in a room, we think mahjong should be a curated, cohesive experience where every element works together.

  • Tumbling can leave light surface marks or fine scratches, so a few are common on a new set. These are a natural result of the manufacturing process rather than a sign the set has been used. The darker the tile, the more visible these surface marks and fine scratches may be.

Small differences from tile to tile are normal in a small-batch run. If what you are seeing looks like actual damage rather than normal surface variation, send us a photo and we will take a look.

  • Use the soft cleaning cloth included with your set for everyday upkeep and fingerprints. When needed, slightly dampen the cloth with water and gently wipe the tiles clean. Avoid harsh chemicals or soaking the tiles, as moisture can settle into the engraved areas.

  • We ship all orders via UPS Ground, which typically arrives within 3–7 business days depending on your location. At checkout, you’ll be able to see real-time shipping estimates based on your address. We’re exploring expedited options for an additional fee and hope to offer them soon.

  • Every Haus of Tiles collection begins with original, artist-backed artwork and months of development, sampling, color refinement, and revisions. Our tiles are deeply engraved, intricately painted by machine and by hand, and hand polished. Each set includes a luxury tile bag and a substantial, beautifully crafted box, all designed to make opening a Haus of Tiles set feel like an experience in itself.

And that experience extends beyond the box. We create the world around each collection too, from the storytelling and photography to curated playlists, cocktail menus, and the little details that make gathering around the table feel special. We want owning a Haus of Tiles set to feel different.

Of course, there is also the less glamorous reality: Mahjong sets are big and heavy. They are expensive to move, package, warehouse, and ship around the world.

Ultimately, you are paying for original art, craftsmanship, creativity, and an experience that has been considered down to the smallest detail.

  • Our mats come in square and octagon shapes. A pattern may appear in more than one style, so two listings that look alike are separate products. The shape, size, and details for each one are on its product page.

  • That is the idea behind Curated to Combine™. Most of our tile sets, mats, racks, and shufflers are intentionally designed to work across colorways and collections rather than with just one set, so you can mix, layer, and build a table that feels entirely your own.

  • Each mahjong set includes a custom vegan leather tile storage bag, game guide, (4) haus playing cards and dice.

160 tiles in each Mahjong set:

    36 each dots, bams, cracks
    16 winds
    12 dragons
    8 flowers
    10 jokers
    6 blanks

  • Because these include a metal grommet, we recommend surface cleaning only. Use a mild soap and water solution and gently wipe with a soft cloth or sponge. For spills or deeper cleaning, spot-treat the area and let the mat air-dry flat. Avoid long stretches of direct sunlight to preserve color.

Between games, the grommet is there to be used. Hanging the mat on a hook, a peg, or a slim rod keeps it flat, keeps the pattern visible, and is the easiest way to store it.

Mats are more prone to creasing when folded in higher temperatures. Best to store flat or rolled in a temperature controlled environment.

  • These can be handled a bit more freely. Spot cleaning is still ideal, but for a deeper refresh you may carefully hand-wash in cold water with a gentle detergent. Lay flat to dry fully, with no heat and no dryer. We do not recommend machine washing, since repeated agitation is hard on the material over time.

Our mats are made from natural rubber and polyester fiber, built to hold up to years of play. With simple, gentle care, yours will stay smooth and vibrant.

  • Not always. Depending on what you order, tiles, mats, racks, and accessories may ship in separate boxes and may arrive on different days. If your order has multiple shipments, you will receive tracking information for each one.

  • In-stock orders typically leave our fulfillment center within 1-3 business days. You will receive tracking by email when your shipping label is created.

Tracking may remain unchanged for a few business days while your order moves through fulfillment and into the carrier's network. Once the carrier scans your package, tracking will begin updating. If there has been no movement after several business days, please submit a request through our Contact page.

  • Tracking begins when your shipping label is created, but that does not always mean your package has been picked up or scanned by the carrier yet. It is completely normal for tracking to remain unchanged for a few business days while an order moves through fulfillment and into the carrier’s network.

Once the carrier scans your package, tracking will begin updating as it makes its way to you. If there has been no movement after several business days, please submit a request through our Customer Care form so our team can take a closer look.

  • We highly recommend it. Route covers your order against loss in transit and damage caused by handling, the coverage is inexpensive, and they have been a good partner to us. When tracking shows a package was lost, or an item clearly took a beating on its way to you, Route has been quick to replace it or refund it.

If you remove Route at checkout and your package is lost in transit, Haus of Tiles is not able to refund the order or send a replacement free of charge. Once a carrier has the box, what happens to it is outside our control, and Route is what covers you.

  • Please submit a request through our Contact page within 5 days of delivery. The form will guide you through the information and photos we need, including photos of the product and shipping packaging when applicable.

Please keep the item and all packaging while we review your request. If we need the item returned, we will provide a prepaid return label at no cost to you.

Keep in mind that some variation is a normal part of our manufacturing and finishing process. Fine surface marks on tiles can occur during tumbling and are more noticeable on darker colors. Natural materials may also vary slightly in color, grain, and texture. Cracks, chips, missing paint, missing pieces, or structural damage are different and should be reported.

  • How do I know when something comes back? Use the Notify Me option on the product page. You’ll receive an email when that exact item is available again.

When are sold-out tiles coming back?
It depends on the set. New production arrives in waves throughout the year. Restocks are announced through our email list and Instagram as they are confirmed.

Will you make more of a set that sold out?
Sometimes, but not always. Many of our colorways are produced in limited runs, and we cannot guarantee that every sold-out set will return.

  • Yes. International shipping varies considerably by destination and what you are ordering, so we handle these orders individually.

To request international shipping, visit our Contact page and select International Order. The form will collect the information we need to review your request and provide available shipping options.

Duties and import fees are calculated and collected at checkout where applicable, so you will see the full landed cost before completing your purchase.

  • Stockists and interior designers. These are two separate programs.

I am an interior designer and want to use your pieces with clients.

That is the Haus Trade Collective. Approved designers get a trackable purchase link for clients to order through, and earn commission on those orders. We handle fulfillment, and you never buy or hold inventory. It is the only commission program we run. You can register here.

I own a shop and want to carry Haus of Tiles.

That is our stockist program. Approved retailers order their own inventory through our wholesale portal, with a minimum order. Start with our wholesale page and we will be in touch.

Do you have an affiliate or ambassador program?

No. The Haus Trade Collective is for working interior designers and is the only program of its kind we run.

  • Which tiles, mats, and racks work together?

Most of our collection is Curated to Combine™, meaning tiles, mats, racks, and shufflers are intentionally designed to work across collections and colorways. Explore our product photography and social channels for combinations and inspiration.

Can you help me choose a mat or rack for my tiles?

We love seeing how you make Haus of Tiles your own, but due to the volume of styling requests we receive, we’re unable to provide individual design consultations. Our website and Instagram are filled with combinations to help you find your favorites.

Will the colors look exactly the same in person?

We photograph our products carefully to represent color as accurately as possible, but screens, lighting, materials, and natural variations can affect how a color appears.

  • Do you offer discount codes?

We are not a discount-driven brand and do not routinely offer discount codes. If and when we run a promotion or offer special pricing, it will be available directly through Haus of Tiles and communicated through our website, email, or social channels.

Do you gift product for events, giveaways, or collaborations?

We do not have a general gifting program and do not provide complimentary product in exchange for posts, collaborations, giveaways, or event exposure.

Do you donate to fundraisers or auctions?

We love supporting meaningful causes, but we receive far more requests than we can accommodate and plan our charitable giving well in advance. If you would like to submit an organization or event for consideration, please visit our Contact page and select Donations + Giving.
